To get a good flavor and texture out of your food, it’s important that you understand the basics of Instant Pot.

Among one of the most important things to learn is how long it takes to preheat an Instant Pot.

How to preheat Instant Pot?

To get a head start while you prep your next meal, just set your Instant Pot to “sauté” mode. When you are ready to get cooking, press “off” and select your desired pressure level.

It’s that simple to preheat your Instant Pot!

How long does it take to preheat Instant Pot?

The Instant Pot takes up to 15 minutes to preheat, but you can start using it after a couple of minutes.

When preheating your Instant Pot, bear in mind that the volume of food affects preheating time. The more food there is, the longer it will take to preheat.

Also, different models and sizes of Instant Pots have different preheating times.

What to do when Instant Pot is stuck on preheat?

The Instant Pot display panel will show “ON” when the machine is in preheat mode. It then pressurizes and begins the preheating process.

However, many users report that their Instant Pot gets stuck at this point.

Here are a few things you can do to fix the issue.

  • Check if the sealing ring is broken or misaligned. If it is, fix it: Don’t scrape or move the pot while it’s preheating or cooking. If the sealing ring is broken, the Instant Pot will remain in preheat mode because it will not be able to pressurize. Check to ensure the sealing ring is in good condition and working properly. After every 12 to 16 months, you should examine the seals and replace them if they appear damaged.
  • Seal the Release Valve of the Instant Pot Pressure Cooker before preheating and cooking: Make sure that steam is escaping through the float valve, not the release valve. As long as the release valve is open, the Instant Pot will not achieve pressure. When your Instant Pot reaches pressure, the venting valve will close automatically.

Different pressure release functions in Instant Pot!

Like the Instant Pot takes time to preheat and pressure cook, it takes some time to release the pressure after cooking is done.

After the cooking is done, you can release pressure quickly with the Quick Release method or slowly with the Natural Release method.

Quick Release

When you are cooking delicate food items such as fish or vegetables, you can choose to use the quick-release function.

Press the steam release button to release the pressure.

You can’t use this on a meat stew or rice, because these types of foods require longer cooking time and will not cook properly if they’re released too soon.

Natural Release

It takes a little patience to slow-release, but your food will get soft, and properly boiled. Whenever you are cooking beans, legumes, or meat, use this method to get better results.

Concluding my thoughts on preheating Instant Pot!

If you do need to preheat an Instant Pot, then just remember that it will take the same amount of time as with any other pressure cooker: around 15 minutes. While waiting for the pot to preheat, measure out your ingredients for a recipe. It will save you time and energy.
